Analysis of the match between Norway and Senegal
Argentina are not the only team to have made a strong impression after the opening round. In Group I, Norway have also shown that they are a formidable contender thanks to their outstanding run of form. Their 4-1 victory over Iraq in the opening match extended Stale Solbakken's team's winning streak to 11 consecutive official matches. Erling Haaland once again underlined his importance by scoring twice and continuing to establish himself as a nightmare for opposing defenses.
Based on their current performances, Norway's objective in the second round is clearly to secure all three points. A victory over Senegal would move the Nordic side very close to a place in the knockout stage before their highly anticipated clash with France in the final group match. As a result, Norway know this is an opportunity they cannot afford to waste if they want to remain in control of their own destiny.
On the other side, Senegal delivered a determined performance against France but still suffered a 3-1 defeat. The African side adopted a defensive approach, maintaining a compact shape and competing aggressively across the pitch. Their pressing ability and physical strength caused problems for their opponents at various stages of the game.
However, Senegal's main issue is the lack of sufficient quality to compete consistently against elite teams. Under sustained pressure, their defensive line often leaves spaces exposed and struggles during transitional phases. These weaknesses could be heavily punished against a dynamic and creative side like Norway.
Solbakken's squad is currently regarded as one of the most talented generations in Norwegian football history. Most of their key players are performing at a high level in Europe's top leagues. Beyond individual quality, Norway have also demonstrated excellent chemistry and tactical efficiency.
In attack, Erling Haaland and Alexander Sorloth form a highly dangerous strike partnership. Behind them is Martin Odegaard, the creative playmaker capable of controlling the tempo and delivering decisive passes. With this trio, Norway possess enough attacking weapons to break down almost any defense when operating at their best.
Considering squad quality, current form, and overall strength, Norway are deservedly viewed as favorites against Senegal. The African side may create difficulties through their physicality and fighting spirit, but producing an upset against a Norway team in such excellent form will be far from easy. If they perform to their potential, Solbakken's men have every chance of securing another victory and taking a major step toward the knockout rounds.
