Analysis of the match between Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United
Both PSG and Newcastle still have a chance to secure direct qualification to the Champions League round of 16 if they can claim all three points in this crucial encounter. Therefore, it is clear that both sides will approach the match with great determination.
However, the advantage appears to be leaning more towards the hosts at Parc des Princes. In terms of form, PSG have been more consistent and effective, recording six wins, three draws and only two defeats in their last 11 matches. At home, the French champions have won five of their last six games, with the only loss coming against Paris FC in the Coupe de France.
In the Champions League, PSG have also shown their strength on home soil. In their most recent home match, they defeated another English side, Tottenham, 5-3, with Vitinha scoring an impressive hat-trick. That performance has further boosted PSG’s confidence ahead of this clash with Newcastle.
In contrast, Newcastle have been struggling for form. The Magpies have won just one of their last five matches, drawing two and losing two. Even more concerning is their poor away record: in their last 19 matches on the road, Newcastle have managed only three wins, six draws and ten defeats. In the Champions League, they are winless in their last two away games.
Moreover, history does not favour Newcastle. In 14 previous meetings with French clubs, they have won four, drawn three and lost seven, with five of those defeats coming on French soil. Given these factors, another defeat for Newcastle in France looks highly likely.
